31 for 21: Worn Out

I am a tired mama today.

Understanding what is going on with Ben's health can be difficult.  The past couple of weeks have given us lots of opportunities to wonder what's going on inside his little body.

Vomit, for example.  He's been throwing up occasionally.  Not often, but occasionally.  And I'm not really sure why.  It could be because he's constipated.  His heart medication dosage recently was upped, so the diuretics are drawing more water out of his system.  It could also be because he's congested.  He's had a solid runny nose for the past week or so.  No cough, but lots of snot.  It could also be because he's developed an intolerance for dairy.  He's only been on whole milk for a month or so, and maybe it's just not working for him.

Last night, I woke up at midnight to hear him gasping for breath.  Ben sounded like he was choking.  I picked him up, thumped him on the back several times and bounced him a bit.  Still wheezing and struggling to breathe.  It scared me.

Emmett woke up, too, and we debated what to do.  Finally, I drove Ben over to the ER at 1:30 a.m.  Of course, by the time we saw the doctor, Ben was happily playing and smiling, waving at the hospital staff.  His oxygen was at 98%, he had no fever, and everything was totally fine.  The doctor suggested that he may have just choked on some phlegm.

So today,  I am tired.  I also bought almond milk for our boy to try.

Ben has a knack for making funny faces.  Here are the latest:

Hoping that he (and I) get a good night's sleep tonight!

  2. So stressful when kids are choky.... Milk creates phlegm so the alternate idea seems good! Congestion doesn't help constipation either . Hang in there!
